This will be my completely biased review based on my opinion of Reforger 2012. Let me start off by saying, yes there was some confusion, and people not calling their hits, but in the me, like most others at Reforger, had a lot of fun.
Pre-start of the game: There was a little confusion, i won't lie. But most of it was worked out, the thing i was confused about the most was how a lot of people did not know their teams. Being that the teams were posted for around two and a half months, but most people quickly found their teams, so that was a quick fix.
First round of the game: The start was a lot fun, half of 1st Cav was split up, which from what I've heard had happened to some other teams. But that wasn't that big of a deal because of the radio support. But for the Soviets, most of their comms went down, and so did their guns, so it was some what unfair. So the squad i was with on 1st Cav (because we split up) tried to flank the enemy. While trying to do that we say our enemies in a small box, so i remembered that i bought a grenade from Dave the last weekend. So i pulled the pin, then threw it. All the Soviets ran, then it never went off... The flank worked for awhile, but then we basically got trapped. There was this guy on the Soviets not taking hits, but whatever it already happened and is done.
Lunch & lunch reset: After the first round we went and ate lunch, talked, and went to Dave's store. I bought a Kookaburra field batch and will proudly wear it. After that Dave gave away some patches, then he gave away a Thompson.
Second round: 1st Cav stuck together pretty good in the second round, but we unfortunately broke off into the trenches, and there is where me John, and the other John (Victor's son) faced the most problems. We were cut off, and Soviets surrounded us, there we made our last stand. I was the first one to get hit, then respawnded. By the time i finally got there they both had been hit. Then some guy called safety kill on me, and another player called it on him, he then argued that he hit him first. I don't know what happened after that. Soon after that Reckoning took The Town, and we won.
Third & Final round: So we switched sides, and that kind of messed us up, well it messed me up. I was running low on ammo, battery wasn't doing so good, and was kind of trapped. I finally got my grenade to work, what happened was i hadn't put a penny in my grenade which pushes the Co2 cartridge far enough up to activate the explosion mechanism. So i ran with John into a small trench and i pulled the pin, then nothing happened. John got hit, then i did too. As i was walking away a heard a loud boom, i then literally jumped into the air with joy, i was like "YES! AMERICA!!!" I then ran to the spawn then slowly and moved up. Me and John moved up to the Tower, then John ran out of ammo, and right after that i did too. I got some ammo from a player, not much though. Then i moved up to where two FUF guys who turned Soviet were holding down, and got more ammo at this point thought i got about half a midcap magazine's worth of ammo. Then me and another guy moved into a trench. He got hit, then i tried moving then i got hit. Soon after that the game ended, that was the lats game though.
In the end: It's was a great Op, and I'm happy i went. If you ask me it was worth way more than 25 dollars. So yes i had a lot of fun, thanks for reading have a good one. Jonathon aka HH kid from Korea.

Well I must say that since the last two games i played on this field, Red Tide and Verrat, I have seen vast improvements to the field. Our trip stated by reading some reviews on this field that were very positive. I had to see the field for myself. And Dave, this field will hold up with any in the state. It has trenches, town, lots of cover, and several points to hold or take. The field can also sustain a large number of players at once.
My take, a four hour and ten min. drive to motel the night before, then to the field the next day. Every airsoft event I have been to has never started on time, not a concern at all for me.I was there to sling bb's and have fun, both were achieved. The teams were set into position and given tasks. What else can you ask? Our Nato commander switched teams around in different positions so we had time attacking and defending, at this point I applaud him. We had a free lunch and game on again. There is always some confusion at the start on who was on your teams, I studied at the start and had none, we also had a password for some younger players in case they got confused, this worked very well, the quality of players at this event is of high caliber, thus enhancing the game play. Although I must say i feel sorry for the guy who got his tooth chipped, been there and done that. Now I wear full face protection and fan goggles, problem solved. I really seen no downfall to this game at all except as mentioned maybe a better and audible start to gameplay. But my nephew and I really had a great day and would definately make this trip again in the future bringing more of our team.
To Dave and admin, thank you, Duke, Recon Warriors

Well I wrote as long review on the other thread but it got locked and I'm tired so unfortunately I won't retype it. The summary: all issues I had were resolved by Dave. Canary Dave has a great field and store. NATO commander did an excellent job. 1st Cav did an excellent job. Enemy team did an excellent job. All those who have sore feelings (or bodies), sorry. It's expected that there'll be issues, so get over it and have fun!

Well, I'd like to thank Dave and everyone else who helped to put today's op on. I enjoyed myself as always out at temple, and I was glad to see so many great people out there--both old faces and new. Squirrel, Wraven, LT and all of the other commanders, you did a great job keeping team movements fairly coordinated and it made it even more fun.
Things I liked:
The Tank- that thing rolling up with "Flight of the Valkyries" playing and guns bristling was a sight to behold!(plus the bagpipes were sweet)
The People- had a bunch of great folks out there. People played hard, but also were very fair and cared about making the game fun. I saw several people work out issues with safety kills or other things, and Dave and the other refs were all over the field settling whatever issues came up. There was a bit of shrugging, but that will virtually always happen. Maybe sometimes it hit someone's gun, or they thought it was a ricochet. I know I sometimes get frustrated with it, but I need to remember that it happens both ways. Overall, I saw great sportsmanship and lots of great play out there. Thanks for coming out everyone!
The Field-I’ve been out to Kookaburra before, but this op really utilized the whole field in a way I’ve never seen. There were people in every nook and cranny, using every facet of the (extremely diverse) environment. Fighting in the trenches was totally different from the town, which was totally different from the back field area, ect. In my opinion, the Temple field provides an awesome environment for players to play however they want.
Issues and how they were handled: Yes, there were several different units with different camo, but apart from the 3-5 of guys wearing some funky germanish russian whatever camo, it was easy to tell friend from foe even though I hadn't even looked at the units online. If there was friendly fire, that is not entirely the fault of the different camos, and will happen sometimes no matter what. I would suggest a slightly different organization of the uniforms though, because they were a little mixed up.
A couple people got angry about hits with a DMR inside of the engagement range (80ft instead of 100), but Dave handled it extremely well, asking the people who got hit what they thought the best solution to the issue was, and showing the guy what he meant by 100ft.
Another issue that popped up was when a guy got hit after he was dead. I was pretty much the closest person to the incident, as I had just safety killed the guy. Reckoning was taking a respawn point, and as they took down people at the point those people were walking away. The problem was that nobody knew who was still alive in there, and more people from other bases were coming in to respawn so it was quite chaotic. They guy I safetied told me he was dead along with everyone else, so I tried to call a cease-fire to reckoning. Unfortunately, as I was trying to communicate with them he stepped out from behind the box and took a bb in the face. To be clear, he did not have a dead rag on or a raised hand that I could see. As he thought that a cease-fire had been established, he was quite angry with the reckoning guys, who were very apologetic. To Dave’s credit, he was there immediately, and froze play to mediate. Unfortunately, at that point things were so confused back there that he decided that to reset the game would be the most fair to everyone.
Some people have mentioned the game start time. Yes we did start a bit late, but as Dave said, we went a bit late as well. The thing is that Dave is always trying to cater to the players, so when people show up late or are disorganized he tries to work with them as best he can. It’s a fine line when you are trying to keep things on schedule but also accommodate both people who are hard core and people who are a bit more relaxed about it. If he had said the op starts at 11, people would’ve invariable have shown up even later, and we’d have the same issue.
Safety briefing was another topic. Ok, if you wanted to start earlier, why would you be upset that Dave didn’t spend an hour trying to anticipate every little nuance or question someone might have? The rules are posted in several places, and if you have an issue you can always ask someone about it. An exhaustive breakdown of every possible rule would be inefficient and not necessary.
About the chrono, again we run into the issue of balancing schedule and player demands. I agree that each weapon shouldve had some sort of marker to distinguish that it had been chronoed, but making people put in separate bb’s would’ve taken FOREVER. Any gun that was considered to be questionable was chronoed again out in the field just to make sure. Airsoft has to be somewhat based on honor as well, because quick-change springs and the like can sometimes be hard to spot and would make even the most regulated chrono imperfect.
The spawning issue was the one thing I actually minded, but they did try to fix it. The new system worked pretty well, (although it would’ve worked better if everyone had done it), but we did run into the issue of one team trying to take a base that people from other bases were coming to to spawn.
In conclusion, I’m very sorry for the couple people were offended or got injured accidentally, but I do feel like the level of reaction to some of these issues is a little strong. I completely agree that the guns should have been marked as chronoed, but I think that the method of inserting a standard weight of bb in each gun at chrono will not be effective. If people want to play dirty and work around the chrono, they will find a way. Overall, I enjoyed the op very much, as did my team, and we will be back as often as we can to play at what I consider a great field with an excellent community!

This was a great OP and the players were generally good sports with a few exception but over all it was worth coming. Me and my team members will definitely becoming back for the next event!

I had a BLAST, however I do have a couple things.
I liked the colored zip tie system mentioned elsewhere, no tie, get chrono'd. And perhaps a bag of .2s at the chrono station to load and verify, lastly, dead crowds caused some confusion, maybe have a cheap pile of "rental" dead rags for larger events.
The gates were open at 8, only 15ish of us were around by 9, so its a pain to get started on time regardless of procedure, ah well.
Also, I'm relieved to know it was a NATO sniper spoken to about engagement distance, I was asked to move back from my 150+ target, but contacted an OC who confirmed I was a safe distance. For the Player:OC ratio we had, OC response times were AWESOME.
I never saw/experienced a problem throughout the day, good game.

im not going to get too far into it but we were going to use zip ties but found some unused ones on the ground in the player area. so we made sure that we got all the ones we could sence someone had a bunch of zip ties in there gear it made no sence to ziptie. so we took the time to do many more spot checks than normal.. I saw about 30 spot checks myself. the other OCs did many more.... i saw a problem and adapted to it.

Oh, sorry about wearing the same uniform as the hillcrest, If i knew what they were wearing i would have worn something else but i guess it was my fault. The day was amazing for the FUF and the trenches along with the town and everything else was amazing and made me want to go again as soon as possible.

Reforger was great! I don’t want to keep anyone’s time reading this so I’ll cut it down to the pros and the cons.
Pros: - The Truck was awesome. Next time I come out I want to see a Truck driving around. It made a great equalizer, and kept both teams on their toes. - NATO commander was excellent! - Dave has a great field. I like the town and I like the trenches. - Teams played hard and worked together well.
Cons: - Players not understanding the basic principles of airsoft. Your out their to have fun, but your also going to get hurt. Put that in your mind every time you go out on the field, and plan appropriately on how you’re going to protect yourself. (Ex: Full face mask, a neck cover, and protective gloves.) - Radio trouble. Carry an extra set of batteries on you at the game, and if your radio goes down switch them out.
Changes: -Add cover around the trenches to make access and egress easier. From playing yesterday, my squad of 12 men held back 50 soviets (not an exaggeration, confirmed by NATO command). Just like in 300 we funneled the opposing force into a small hole (the fence and the top left corner of the trench field) and we never lost ground or had a single soviet get past our defenses. - I’ve never played a game with medics, but I’ve seen it done. It could be a fun way for one man from a squad save his team from having to go back and respawn.
All together had a great time and look forward to coming back again.
Thanks Dave for the field.

And to hilt, if you're reading this. Dave requires that all players under 18 wear full face protection because of an incident where a player was hit in the tooth. He also offers many different types of face protection, from iron faces, to full masks, to mesh half masks. They are cheap and work well. Just because you are NOT REQUIRED to wear something, doesn't mean you Shouldn't. If you are concerned for your safety then protect yourself. Yes it is the fault of the player who shot you, but it is also yours for not taking the precautions that would have avoided it.

As the Group Leader of the FUF I believe we had a fantastic time. I showed up around 9 am, and went to the store to get what I needed. Dave then quickly linked me up with the FUF sqaud, who were all new players to the field.
We all got crono'd, and were in attendance at the safety briefing. The NATO Commander called all squad leaders to his presence so we could form strategy. He had a map for each of us with all the uniform types below it. At first I thought it was too much of an effort on his part to do that because I had studied the uniforms, but later if this method was used by the Soviet commander there would of been less chaos and confusion.
Round 1 went great except some of the NATO forces didn't make it to the Command meeting or weren't told by their squad leader. When we yell blue, you yell corn, or we will fire upon you. This issue was taken care of within NATO and we carried the day for round 1.
Lunch was great. Before round 2 we fixed the FUF guy, Tyrus, who looked like Hillcrest. Round 2 and 3 went great also. In round 3 FUF was near what we dubbed the CR respawn as they captured it earlier. Some NATO forces were moving forward in the brush, I yelled blue, they didn't respond, so I shot them. Then one of them yelled they were in ACU's, except they were in heavy brush. I had no idea what they were in or who's side they were on due to the foilage.
The only slight suggestions I have would be that as Dave advises who the leader for each whole force is that both have seasoned folks in the leadership role. The NATO Commander did great through our briefing, through comms, and seeing him on the field. I'd also like to thank Xulo, and the Marine Commander for keeping the FUF in the fight and seeing where we needed to coordinate our efforts. IF the Soviets had a head commander like say, LT, who knows his stuff then I think the Soviets would of gone alot smoother. Not to say the Soviet leader was inexperienced for that large of a force, it just looked like there were lots of internal issues on their behalf.
Blue Berets: These folks I thought were NATO because of the Blue Berets like UN but on no, they were Soviets. It kinda of added to the confusion, but was fun at the same time.
Horse trailer: I thought it was going to be used in the game, but it wasn't. In round 3 the Soviets used it as a structure, so I suggest removing the screen windows so folks can shoot in and out of it.
Armored truck: Would of been great if NATO had one too, or if we switched it after lunch, or it could be captured and redeployed by the capturing force.
Overall it was a great day. Wore all my safety gear so I wouldn't get hurt, and I hope the FUF made an impact on a majority NATO victory.
The OC's did a great job dealing with that many people, and I hope everyone had fun! After all, that's why we come to the field!

. Yes it is the fault of the player who shot you, but it is also yours for not taking the precautions that would have avoided it. I am the player that shot Hilt. No it was not my fault, I took a shot at him with my M4 (min. engagement dist. 20 ft.) form 50 ft away. All I had was a head shot so I took it. This was no ones fault really, it's the risk of the game. Furthermore I was completely following the rules when I took the shot. So maybe you should re evaluate what you're saying.

I never blamed anyone for this incident, in fact it was part of my praise to Plague that he handled it so well. I posted it purely as background. I don't generally care for facemasks, I didn't wear one, I'll deal with the consequences. Plague, sorry you are taking fire, again, I don't blame you for the incident. Every player who has commented on this thus far has no right to criticize unless they themselves wear full protection. There were far fewer players wearing masks than not. Drop it.

ok so let me git this straight, you were hit by a legal gun (under 400 fps) from another gun that was cronoed at least 2 times that day. in no way did the other player break any rules. from over 50 feet. you were not wearing the recommended gear that is offered for free. we had a OC in the area you or your team did not think it was important enough to find me or (under 700 feet away at the MOST) with a big truck blairing bagpipes!!! i had a radio hat everyone knew i was on and a cell phone. NO gun on the field was ever found to be shooting hot, NONE!!!!! and its all the fields fault? ?

No reason to not be nice It's the internet, nothings worth fighting for, however there seems to have been a misinterpretation, Some suggestions were made, however they could have been stated more cleanly rather than "Don't like, won't be back", when bordering on the fine line of negative criticisms one must tread lightly, otherwise these kind of things can happen. and people get riled up easily over any competitive sport (More so on the internet)Im pretty sure all parties can take something positive from this, some suggestions to better the field, a good reminder as to why a lot of us wear full face covers, and hey ,! a hungry dentist Might even make some money! cheers to moving forward ~ tnp Edit ; fixed grammar fail

I had a great time at REFORGER. It seems every time I come to Dave's field I leave satisfied.
I was with GSG-9, we were friendly fired upon and killed within the first 5 minutes of the start of the game. I was asked around 10 times which squad I was with and what team I was on. Read teh forums people!
That was really the only negative part of the game I had and as long as Dave's field is open, I will be playing there whenever I can. I always have fun and get my money's worth at Dave's – isn't that what it's all about??

Ok I do agree with Hobbit on this one, but I don't see why there is any call for anger from her. Anyway, Hilt has been very reasonable from what I've seen, and hasn't said anything critical except for addressing the chrono issue. That is a valid concern and he has a right to say that he thinks it could've been done better. It could have. I don't necessarily think it needed to be done like he suggested, but you could always acknowledge his concern.
He NEVER said it was the field's fault. He took full responsibility for the tooth incident, and THEN expressed his concerns over the chrono. He never said the gun was hot, or that the distance was too short, or anything. I think Hilt has been very fair about this, even acknowledging that your OC's were there within minutes to resolve the issue.
Nobody has said in their remarks that there were hot guns on the field or that your response time was poor. I understand the importance of making it clear to everyone that the field is in fact safe, but being aggressive about the issue is not going to allay anyone's concerns. Yes I think the chrono system worked fine, and I have never been concerned about safety at your field, but please allow players to offer you constructive criticism. If you answer their concerns in a more calm and reasoned manner, I think you will accomplish more.
That being said, I would like to again say that from what I've seen, Dave has been very good about maintaining a safe environment at his field. I have never seen any issues that he has not addressed quickly and effectively in person. I urge anyone who takes an inflammatory, critical approach to their suggestions about the field to either PM Dave, talk to him on the phone, or talk to him in person before you rant on a public website. Also, thank you to those folks (hilt and plague in particular) who have remained calm and reasonable. Hilt, I hope your issue with your tooth is resolved with the least pain and trouble possible!

Wait, am I missing something, or was there any other major injuries that I did not hear about? I mean, why are we all picking on the chrono system at this particular event and making it a major issue?
I've seen far worse, like no chrono at all, at fields in the Austin area.

I don't know why a couple people were complaining about it. Like I said I didn't see an issue. I was just acknowledging that there could possibly have been a better way to make sure (like zip ties), but I personally don't think they were necessary.

Mainly due cause that was the main thing everyone had a gripe about. There were a few incidents where people did think a gun was shooting hot, but was rectified by OC's with a chorno. The guy that got shot on the teeth, he got with an OC and it was settled. But cause of that there are players basing the whole field off of that. This is NOT a taso field, does NOT follow taso rules, and was NOT a taso event. So those complaints can be shot out the window. The only way Dave will hold TASO rules is if a player sets up an event and requests it. But it's just that a request. He still has his own insurance policies to follow.

Ok, I'm late to the discusion due to real world commitments this morning. Looks like a couple of cans of worms got opened up. I'll weigh in now....in a polite manner. Hopefully I won't step too many toes. First off, it's a shame that Dave decided to lock the intitial thread on feedback. Hit's iniial comments were not all that negative and were politely put. In addition, like many others in the airsoft community, I read a number of forums and saw his cross posts on the other forums. (including oour home forum of LSHM, were of course he's going to post his thoughts) Therefore, I'm still not sure were Dave saw Hilt accusing him of "endangering players". Perhaps he read too much into it? Dave, locking the thread out of hand and engaging in what can only be described as "knee jerk defensiveness" in the discussion itself only serves to make you look bad and thin skinned. Sometimes you are your own worst enemy in these online disagreements. But what's done is done. That's just my opinion on the matter. Moving on to my next points.... (Full disclosure here, Hilt/Hugh is my first cousin. That being said, I don't think that really makes me all that biased, as I've disagreed with him plenty of times in the past.) I do agree with most of Hilt's points. In no particular order I'll make the following points: -Yes, the morning did run on "airsoft time" as do most larger events (and many small skirmished, much to my displeasure). But it did seem a bit haphazard in it's organization. As others pointed out it probably would have been best to make sure that all teams were at the start line and use something better than a whistle to signal game on/over. This is not that big a thing as we all know how these things often are. (hell, the reenacting community has trouble staying on schedule as well, so I'm certainly not new to that) As the the other organizational issues, that may very well sort itself out with a little more experience in the OP admin role. -Yeah, the uniform thing was an issue...especially when we had a whole herd of folks show up in black shirts literally minutes before game on. I know what was being attempted with the posted uniforms. In hindsight, that might not have been the best idea. In the future it might be best to stick to the long standing convention of tan vs. green or use colored armbands. -The chrono station is a very legitimate and pressing concern, and something that in my opinion, really needs to be addressed. I spoke to Dave about this as well before leaving yesterday. Yes, it takes a while to chrono a couple hundred players, but major OPs pul it off all the time. Its just that the time needed to do this needs to be built into the schedule as part of the planning. That un-chrono'd guns were on the field is something that simply should not have occured. In the future, I would recomend running more than one chrono station to speed the process, and keeping the chrono station close at hand to the sign in table....perhaps even tie to two together. Likewise, chrono'd guns should be marked with a colored zip tie. It was mentioned to me that many players had ties from previous game already in place on their guns. This should not really be an issue as a set of snips can kept on hand to remove old ties, and yes spot checks in the staging area and in play should be made to keep people honest. Finally, it is a pain in the neck, but site supplied .20 BBs should be on hand when chronoing. I'm not aware of any "hot gun cheating" that took place and I did not observe any incidents of that sort, but the chronoing thing is a very legitimate concern. Dave, you've mentioned many times that you have insurance regulations to observe. Issues with velocity limits could very well endanger that, and it's something you should take very seriously in my view. I'll close on the chrono issue with this statement: back when I worked in prisons, we used to say "Security is never convenient". To borrow that turn of phrase, "Safety is never convient". -The injury to Hilt's tooth really is a non-issue that got blown up. He only mentioned it to explaian why he left the field early. Hell, had I suffered a similar painful injury I would have left too. No one was to blame. These things happen (it's the third injury of a similar nature I've personally seen since joining the hobby in '02) No fingers of blame were pointed in Hilt's post, and in fact it was an example of something that was handled well at the time in that the OC came to the scene quickly, the gun in question re-chrono'd, and it determined that all rules were followed. It has inspired me to buy my own mesh lower face mask now. Ok, two points directed at other posts and I'll close: Because velocity limits and chrono discipline is a very import thing and it could adversely effect the field due to insurance regulations. Of all the gripes that have been raised about the event, it's the one that needs to , in my opinion, be fixed the most. In any event, the fact that similar or worse safety violations may have occured elsewere in the past is not an excuse and do not really apply to this discussion. and.... Well, it should as the TASO rules are the general convention of play for this region of the country, have been developed over more than ten years of play, and are a good safety baseline. Consistancy and rule standardization is a good thing...which is why TASO was developed in the first place. But that's a whole other subject.... I'm going to close by saying some positive things. On a personal level the only negative things I experienced, were the wind and the cold making the morning uncomfortable and adversely effecting my shooting. It's hard to hit anyone when your BBs are making a 90 degree turn by the end of their flight path after all! But I think we can absolve the field owner for problems with the weather! I stayed all day, and things did improve after lunch. Some of the issues about friend/foe ID were addressed and in my personal experience the play improved. I had a good time and I'm not sorry I attended the event. (especially for the low price of the OP) Once again, Dave has made great strides in making the field not only playable (I once accurately described it when it first started as "an open pasture") but interesting and indeed fun. Kudos to him for that. With a little more admin experience and a few tweeks to procedure, the legitimae concerns voiced in the two feedback threads will probably go away. TR

If you were the guy with the DMR who started the confrontation with the two guys because you were inside engagement range, they had a right to be mad. You are lucky they decided to be gracious, because you did violate the rules. You did nothing to help the situation then with your unapologetic attitude and you continue to make yourself look bad with your trolling.
