To be honest get patches done last.
You don't wanna fork out lots of cash and then have no team.
Establish a solid team base and build from there.
All the fancy team patches and uniforms come later....much later.
For the time being enjoy the sport and look for good friends that will be your trusted teammates out on the field.

which means you HAVE to buy 20 for them to make them.
Couple hundred depending on where you go.
Like I said before...make yourself a solid team with dedicated members. You don't need a patch to represent yourself as an Airsofter.
It's the way you play and the way you carry yourself.

I'll chime in since im getting patches made as we speak. As for team patches, it can be a big hassle. Look at my "team", I don't even consider myself part of a team so kind of searching around. But I do have a friendship with some of the players that I roll with all the time when I do go play. We basically are gaggle of other teams in positions such as myself. Making 3 patches can cost up to 15-35 each. companies like the large order basis, most with 10-20 ea @ 5-50$ ea. for the lowest quality possible. You do pay for what you get. If you are lucky enough to find a computerized embroidery retailer then more the better. Just to get a sample made it's costing me close to 20 for the 1st one with about 1 week turn around time. And it has the least detail of my design ideas. So if you are making one for you and three friends split the cost of 10 between you all then as you get more people to come in sell them to make up the difference or to order more. Just my 2 cents.

yeah everywhere I have looked for patches they run alot of money. Our squad kinda gave up on patches. But if we ever do we plan to split the cost for them. Also if you make patches stick to basic colors like 3 at most companies tend to get confused on patch designand colors.

A temporary and easy way to do it is simply get a "Name" tape done with your team name on it for the short term fix. They are cheap, and easy to find someone to do it for you. Both locally and online. Then once your team numbers build up, and gets to the point where a team patch or banner becomes necessary, then you'll have the members to help split costs with as others have mentioned.
I've seen alot of young paintball teams go another route, which is using a "common" patch... for example the "Staples" Easy button patch... Everyone gets one of those, and the team is referred to as "Easy" company .... smiley face patches with the bullet hole in it... i've even seen the "Ghostbusters" patch in use. Custom patches are nice, but they aren't your only option.
Keep it subdued if you can. Avoid the bright colors. I've been victim in the past to having a team sponsor put a neon color logo on the backs and down the arms of our woodsball jerseys. No teams enjoy that. Just my .02

if you look hard you can find a patch you could like.
or i have something like 5000 patches on hand, you might find one you like there.
