Ok guys, the weather is great, the field is upgraded, the largest store in TX is open and waiting for you.... And 3 people showed up. Just to let you know I can not and will not run the field at a loss. Its up to the community to keep the doors open. Thanks Dave

Maybe hold less games until you get a minimum amount of prepayers ($20) to sign up.
If they don't show keep a portion ($5-$10)?
That way if there are no-shows you made some income.
Then there will be less no-shows cause they won't want to lose any money?
I dunno...just a thought.

its a good thought, i just dont see how i could enforce that. also i have weekly bills that show up (for instince palco overcharged me this week by 1800.00)
if you dont have the money to come then i have a work program, donate some time cleaning the field, pounding a hammer, or filling some sand bags and you get in for free.

That's right...you still have weekly bills....
Well how about the people that say are going to come....prepay. If they become no shows....then keep a portion for the time you used.

I can only speak for myself, but If I see a ton of people planning to go out and play, then i'd be more inclined to log in and let them know i'm coming out as well. If I see no one then i'd be less likely to sign up and pre pay in case I end up being the only one out there. If you enforce a pre-pay to play model, then you'll simply be discourage those who are on the fence about going out for fear of if they can't show, they lose out on $$, or with a tight budget, can't afford to put out cash until the day they plan to play.
Perhaps make it more of an incentive to pre pay (I'll leave it up to Dave to come up with the incentive, but as an example) .... $15 to play, if you pre-pay; $20 at the venue if you walk on, if you pre-payed and can't make it... it simply becomes a play pass or store credit, which could be used when the player is available to hit the fields... so your not actually "Losing" your money, and it will help to keep Dave's business in the black. I'm not an MBA, and I have no idea how much extra work it would cause for Dave to keep track of who pre-payed and showed up, and who would have a "Tab" but it wouldn't be as discouraging as having the "No Show" type penalty fees, at least to me. Feel free to expand, comment and/or question... always good to discuss things like this which will help keep the field going.

i have tried that in the past (pre pay) and it ends up being just lots of work, they run up a bill and then just drop coming to the field so they dont have to play. and its a bunch of paper work.
here is what happened last sat, we had 6 with about 9 no shows, then i got 3 phone calls with people asking how many people were there. they didnt show up. if each phone call brought in 2 people then we would have been +12.
prior to the summer we were bringing in 30+ each week end, just trying to get there again. just asking for some help to make it fun for everyone.

Hm...that makes more sense.
I guess the way I was looking at it was more of a..."Make sure you will show up so people can see that there will be a good turnout"
I figured if you put money in you would be more inclined to really show up cause you put money up for it.
or something like that

Dave. If I'd live closer I would be there almost every weekend. I was an avid RC racer and helped out the local race track at NCRC. But driving 81 miles each way puts a beating on my wallet plus game fee.
BUT now that my wife is finally starting work, I'll have the budget to be there more often. I can try to stay late and clean up and stuff.
