My brother lost his home to the Monument Fire at Ft Huachuca. As soon as he was done evacuating his wife and pets he had to report in to post to help fight the fire. He even called me to get tips on firefighting.
On a sad note, don't fall for scams supposedly helping out the disaster victims. A couple of scammers hit the Sierra Vista area pretty damn quick and started fleecing victims.
Not just thinking about the families losing their homes and belongings, think about the firefighters who are voluntarily putting themselves INTO the firestorm to fight the fire. Donations to your local department of flats of bottled water goes a long way in keeping those men and women going. The firefighters in North Austin fighting the Leander and Cedar Park fires are my colleagues, friends and family.
Be cognizant of your flames (bbqs and cigarettes), keep the areas around your home free of debris, trim your landscaping, and if the unthinkable does happen, LISTEN to the responders, don't fight with them.
And I have to say this, roboyle don't be a troll and thread crap, we really don't care if you have to go to school or not. IF it's constructive then post it.

I go to a Christian school and I'm leading up the efforts to raise money. I'll hopefully have some money to drop off at the field for the cause next time I'm up there.
