I haven’t been out to the field since aftermath so seeing all the updates that Dave and helpers have made is impressive. The way city is setup with the lights changes the way the game is played from daylight. Staying in the shadows and behind light sources is extremely important. Keeping this in mind makes the game really fun and turns into a game of leap frog from shadow to shadow. I found myself not using physical cover nearly as much, but actually cover of night. Something about being out in middle of area with no cover except shadows, and not knowing if anyone else is around to see you move gives the game a little more tension.
I don’t have any complaints about the field.
I have a few ideas that could be fun though.
I would like to see the golden weasel added to the night games with a lights in the building and a light switch. I also would like some fixed to ground rotating spot lights that can be turn on and off with maybe a kill switch somewhere else.
I think some scenarios based around manipulating light could be fun. Spot lights could be used for a dark area you are concerned about enemy using as a point of attack. You turn spot light in that area and leave it. The enemy would have to either disable or turn the light to their advantage. Another idea is maybe some colored lights on a switch that you have to turn on your color and turn off enemys basically a capture the flag with colored light, and to add to that it would be cool if that colored light was the kill switch to the spot lights. Basically if you own the flag you turn off enemies spot light and turn on yours.
Overall I think the most important thing about night games is to have objectives and not be team deathmatch. I believe team deathmatch would just lead to camping and very slow paced game. I don’t mind camping, but if you have a objective at least will have some movement to keep people shooting.
