The night of DOOM!!!

So I got home from the airsoft game and put all my gear on my bed so I had angrys gun so I thought I should charge the battery so I plug it in then set it on my bed side table then I go watch a movie half way through the movie I go into my room to grab something and find my dog sniffing around so I get him out of my room (later I find out that he knocked the battery onto my bed) so I go back to the movie and fall asleep I get woken up by my sister saying your rooms on fire, the funny thing is I slept threw the fire alarm so I kick down the door (great practice) the rooms filled with smoke and all you can se is this glow on my mattress wich just happens to be on fire so I start beating the mattress with my shoes (crocs so convenient) and I rip what's left of my gear off the bed and my dad comes in with a fire extinguisher but it's out of fuel from last year so we throw it out the window and then I think he dragged it to the pool because somehow the mattress it currently Floting in our pool and that's on the other side of the house
So in the end I lost one mattress a drop leg a pair of gloves a smart charger my favorit hat that I havent taken off for a almost a year now this was the first night I took it off now all I have is the melted bill and lots of othe things also the gamecube caught on fire (now what are we gonna do around here) i also lost my school back pack (no work for me!) also my hand held camera caught on fire but it still works it's just really jacked up
And all I walked away with was a few burns on my fingers so its weird that I fell asleep in the living room instid of my room because I probally would have died considering I sleep through fire alarms

Dont charge your batteries while you sleep.....thats 101 stuff

Yeah I didn't mean to fall asleep I think the problem was the battery heated up to much and caught the bed on fire

next time you come to the field please bring the burnt smart charger so we can hang it on the wall to show people what can happen.

Yeah it was a very small price for such a big lesson
1. I wasn't in the bed at the time
2. I only lost a few important things ( I was doing spring cleaning so I had I big pile of stuff to throw away and the fire got it)
3.I was able to get the fire out in less then 30 mins

You want to get a fire out much, much quicker than 30 minutes. Entire houses have burned in less time.

Yeah my mattress is just a denim sack stuffed with cotton so the cotton burned slowly but the denim and the liner was the problem

At least it was contained, could have spiraled out of control much worse.
Different alarms, new extinguishers.
Everyone in a household should be able to readily respond to any house-wide emergency, regardless of the initial severity.

I thought the point of a smart charger was that it was "smart" and turned off once the battery was fully charged?

OODLES of art students at my work are also smart >.>
things can go awry regardless of precaution, with electricity, you better make sure that when things DO go astray, it's contained.
