The game started for me on April 1st when the general registration closed and i began to buy supplies for the event and put together the final pieces.
I should have began this process a month before...
I got to the field on Friday much later than desired due to unforseen issues and did some limited setup before it got dark.. i should have begun THIS process a day earlier.
I got up before dawn and began trying to frantically finish setting up....alas not quite finishing the way i wanted.
Registration opened at 8am to a huge line of walkons--more than expected (good and bad) and registration started to bog down quickly.
After we finally cleared the registration and got many players through chrono, we were approx 45 mins behind schedule. We started the briefing which ran longer than i wanted, but was probably necessary given the lengthy rules... i still didn't cover everything i wanted in the essence of time.
We start the game about an hour behind schedule with everyone itching to get moving. As the "director of wasteland trade" it was my job to oversee the advancement of props in the field... props never advanced the whole game and the majority of my time was spent releasing ammo into the game.
I heard so many stories coming in from the outside... it sounded insane!
We broke for dinner at ~1700 and started the raffle soon after. Gave a way a ton of stuff. Sport Smoke grenades (the big ones), 5k bags of Hailstorm BBs, a WE M9 pistol, a Thompson M1A1, a decent shotgun, a $60 gift certificate to the proshop, and a registration to OP: Broken Home.
I then tossed about $300 worth of Evike branded swag into the crowd along with some of my spare event patches.
The dinner break was voted by players to be extended and thus the night game started at ~8PM instead of 7PM. The game's stand down was called at 10:30 and scores were counted to see who won the Brotherhood of Steel / Enclave war.
Brotherhood won by a narrow margin after finding their tech for their main tech cataloging mission
Final score 2360 BoS to 2100 Enclave. Less than 3 regular missions separated their success. Very nicely done.
I want to thank all my sponsors for the event that either donated or gave really great deals for prizes, Dave the field owner for letting us lease the field outright for this event, my wife for putting up with her living room being destroyed for almost 2 months while i wrote, built, planned, plotted, and assembled every part of Aftermath from scratch, forsaking sleep and physical contact for at least a month prior to the event making sure every detail was covered.
My ref staff that committed to such a difficult and aggravating job for the weekend. I know its boring, but without people committing to the admin positions, the game can't function. If we did not discuss your ref reward, please email me directly at Geddon@GeddonsGames.com
And lastly, but certainly not least, the commanders and players who came to this event and made it possible.
The Enclave: You consistently made my weekend by telling me that the game FELT LIKE FALLOUT. Apparently of all the factions I designed for this event, the Enclave experience was one of the most fun and accurately crafted. PLague, you did a fantastic job and it looks like that even though you guys lost on points, you totally won on the basis of Fun. Thank you all for coming
Brotherhood of Steel: You guys were outnumbered and outgunned from the start, yet you fought like champions and overcame adversity. My hats off to you, Nex. Once again, you are a victorious commander under the Geddons Games mission book system. Your ability to turn the situation around in your favor, despite getting hammered all day, is unmatched. Good job to you and all of your troops. It would seem that the Brotherhood of Steel experience also matched the Fallout 3 game. Outgunned, Outnumbered, Exhausted, but victorious. I hope it was all worth it.
Raiders: You guys... man.. I don't even know what to say. You played the part so well... everyone hated you so much. Thank you Midnight Rider Recon for spearheading the Raiders, Short Fuse for leading the grief-fest that was Megaton and Paradise Falls for the majority of the game, and the guys from way south Texas for joining up and creating mayhem with you IN COSTUME! Thank you so much for coming.
Wastelanders: I didn't know how it was going to turn out for you guys with so many factions gunning for each other around you, but it would seem the Wastelander life was as chaotic at the event as in the video game. Not knowing who to trust, being exploited by raiders, oppressed by the enclave, semi-protected at times by the Brotherhood of Steel, and chased by Super Mutants (and often snacked upon) You guys did a great job and i never heard about any sportsmanship issues or roleplay issues. This game worked because of you. Thank you for coming.
Another big thank you for the members of TEARS that came to head up Megaton. Al, that whole idea of replicating moriarty's bar made me nervous with all the ... stuff... you were doing in there... but you totally pulled it off. Thank you for bringing "Nova" (lol) and doing all kinds of underhanded crap all day.
Traders: You guys totally owned the economy. I expected raiders to essentially fall into the wastelander category by the end of the game, but you guys held up your end of the roleplay and exploited every economic angle. You *broke* the wasteland. Take all the caps! There are a lot of things i want to tweak about how the traders function within the game and i'll be posting more about that in the coming weeks. Thank you all so much for coming. I know some of the Louisiana guys were in on this aspect of the event.
Super Mutants:
Holy crap you guys totally brought the A Game to the field. Big guns and a consistent costume look made you scary and identifiable to everyone. The minigun helped too... Yes, for those of you who did not see or hear about it, the Super Mutant Overlord had a minigun and he used it to repeatedly rake the town of megaton all day. I heard the Super Mutants "ate" so many people they basically had infinite respawns all game.
Good job on that.
Good job to everyone that came. Your sportsmanship and attention to detail let me relax a little by night game.
I have a long long list of proposed changes that i want to dialogue with everyone for Aftermath 2
This discussion will take place primarily on NorthTexasAirsoft.org
If you would please give me a personal AAR in this format:
*A few things I liked about the event and would like to see kept:
*A few things i did not like about the game and would like to see changed or removed
*A few things I did not see at the game and would like to see added
*A paragraph or two about your expectations and level of satisfaction with the event as a whole.
Thanks again to everyone who made this event possible. Here are some links to photos and videos that I have found:
