Just thought I would throw out my observations on why Kookaburra is an outstanding place to shoot your buddies.
>> I have been bringing my group (Hillcrest) to the field for 16 months now and the number one reason to come here is the community. Let me give you some examples.
1) After an extremely long day at Reforger, The Great Mr. Poo was asked by one of my younger guys if he would change out the spring in his gun with a new one he had just bought from Dave. I saw the look on Poo's face and was about to rescue him by telling my guy to just hang on to it, when Poo said he would do it. It was getting cold and everyone had just about left but the Great One stood there patiently working on this poor kids crappy gun. A job made harder because the gun was a pretty crappy starter gun. He patiently answered the million questions my teen had for him. Countless other times during our time here he has had the same great attitude of helpfulness and sportsmanship. This goes for guys like Neo, etc. as well.
2) Dave. At Reforger I had five girls with our team, 2 20 year olds, 2 16 year olds and a 13 year old. Dave may take some flack for trying to tone down his "language," for the women in the audience, but as a guy who brings a variety of people, not all of whom are hardcore members of the military, I appreciate his attempt at restraint, even though he is, after all, Dave By the way, 3 of those girls are repeat players, and the 2 new ones want to come back. They were unaffected by the "drama," because they weren't around it I guess. Airsoft is a tough sell with some of my girls, but we are making headway This is good for the sport.
2a) Dave has always tried to work with us with whatever situation we have had or wanted. He is a stand up guy with his own set of strengths and weak spots just like every one of us have our own set. I'm glad he is in charge of the field that I entrust my people to play on and I'm proud to call him a friend after getting to know him over the last year and a half. Is he or everything that happens at the field always perfectly to my liking? Heck no. It's not in my 25 year marriage either. Cuz we are human. It's just the way it is.
3) The field is awesome, gigantic, with a variety of terrain obstacles. Try it, you will like it.
For Reforger, we had invested in an awning, banners, and food and drink for the community. We wanted to give back a little to Dave and the community, but we had issues getting out of Bryan Saturday, and it was freakin' freezing in the morning, so that never got set up. But we ate the snacks that were meant for you all on the way home
Good games, good times. More to follow. Come out and join the community!
