If you're like me, and are face down doing some crawling in the dirt and grass, make sure to regularly check for ticks, can't do much about em pre-emptively, but make sure ya get em before they become a big problem. odds are you don't have a deer tick and you can pluck em right off.
Edit ; Use a match, I wasn't aware that doing otherwise increases the chance of infection.

Ticks are parasites, some are known to cause really bad diseases such Rocky mountain spotted fever ( a real illness), Lime Disease. Do not simply pull them off, their head is burrowed in the skin. Just look up how to properly removed them, I'm sure there are dozens of homeschool methods around. Enjoy.

Burn them off with a match. They have little heat tollerance. If you pull them off the head gets stuck under the skin and is more likely to become infected.

The best way that I know of is with heated/hot tweezers. My Dad would take a lighter and heat up the end of tweezers and almost instantly as soon as he would touch the tick with the hot tweezers the jokers would pull their heads out and try to get out of dodge...lol It definitely seems they do not like hot tweezers on their ass...lol

This in particular is the little bugger we're referring to, if you've never seen a tick. I'm pretty sure this is the lone star tick.
