You need three things: 1) An Airsoft Gun /w BB's 2) Eye Protection 3) A willingness to have fun!
The first two can be rented at Daves field at Temple. I suggest you rent first to see what you like playing with then when you want to buy a gun Dave's shop is the best place to buy a nice beginning gun *(as well as a nice mid-range and high-range gun)*.
If you want to have a real friendly game and have a lot of fun come out this Saturday and experience it yourself.

Dave I assumed the OP was a beginner and as such wanted to purchase a beginning gun.
I did not mean any disrespect as I know your place is great to purchase all price levels of guns.
In my opinion when starting out in airsoft rent first then buy a lower cost gun before you jump in with the +$250 guns. Worst thing out there is buyers remorse with an airsoft gun.

Its all good. ;D I agree about renting first, and getting your secondary gun first. Thsn getting your primary gun latter.
Yes we will have Sunday games soon. The store is open Sunday and if we have players show up on Sunday they can play.

Basic needs:
Information, learn about the hobby via watching youtube vids, looking around on airsoft sites. This can give you a broad spectrum of what to expect.
FUN, it's a hobby not a sport, so therefore it should be something you love to do.
Try it out, I find it easier to get into something if you have friends that are willing to try something new. So when you go back home, you will have some good "war stories" to share
Safety, you can pretty much replace any kind of extremity on the body, but eyes are bit tad tricky. Get some AZ71 ballistic approved goggles/glasses and or paintball mask.
BB's, recommend getting some high quality bb's they will shoot farther and straighter
Airsoft Replica, I put this so far down on the list for various reasons. There are literally 100's of different style of replicas. For the most part, shoot pretty much the same. As someone stated, take a look around and see what you like, how it feels with you. Then you can factor in price, maintenance, and other thins ie; batteries, upgrades. You can rent, try someones replica out at the distance range. You will always get, this gun vs that gun. A little research goes A LONG way. Some prefer AR platforms others AK.
You can worry about uniforms, tactical vests, and all the other getup till you see if this is the right thing for you. As for this community, I can let you know that most will try to help you out as much as possible with questions about specific things. I also would read up on the local field rules and do's and don't. I hope this gives you more insight on things, but all boils down to just going out and just do it. Have fun, shoot safe, sling bb's.
