Just random wandering... How come I only see mock silencers for airsoft guns? I never see a real one, it seems that would be very helpful.... Is there something about airsoft guns that makes silencers not work? Quatzecoatl

What you hear when the gun fires is internal, and I think on some guns, suppressors work slightly- but I've heard you do something to the gearbox to quiet it.

Real silencers are illegal unless you have the right permits and such.
Mock silencers are just for looks and covering up that elongated inner barrel.
Real steel silencers work by screwing onto the end of the gun's outer barrel, creating a large space for the pressurized gas behind the bullet has a place to expand into. So the pressure of the gas falls significantly. Therefore, the sound of the gun firing is much softer.
Mock silencers won't work with aegs because they're electric powered, thus no pressurized gas is being built up, and the gears, motors, and such are causing the noise.

Ok so here's the main reason. Not only do you have to have a higher standard firearm license to own suppressors, but they also cost a ton of money. You also have to get them government stamped which costs even more than the suppressor itself. Another reason is what's the point? Ehat reason do civilians have for suppressors?

Most of these are a little off.
This will end this discussion on suppressors/silenencer/cans bring it to a real steel forum.
1.real steel suppressors are used to slow down the gasses expelled from a round fired from a firearm. There are different styles of them all around; google will help you on that part. So use of a real one on a airsoft gun won't work, so why bother?
2. To even obtain one you have to go through a class III dealer, LEGAL dealer at that. Submit bio, and fingerprint info, as well as pay a 200 tax stamp. Won't go into full details but again google will help you.
3. Even if you could afford to get a real one why put it on a AS replica; stated in 1.
4. The reason people use mock barrel extentions on AS replicas; looks, tracer units, cover up longer inner barrels.
Simple as that.

ok im ending this 1 brl extensions are what we use, and thats all they are used for, period.
2 anyone that makes a real one, mods a premade one to make it "work" will be ask to leave the field.
3. the ATF says that if a device lowers the sound 1db than its a working silencer needing a class 3 lic to build, a class 3 1928 tax stamp, and be tracked by address via the ATF. failing to do any of the required steps will get a 5 year prision stay for EACH infraction. DONT MESS WITH THEM!!!!!!!
