What are y'all's ideas for a zombie-themed mission? Should the zombies wield guns? If so, what kind? Team balance?

There are many rulesets and scenarios you could use for zombie themed games. -Zombies could just be "enraged" and can use guns -Zombies can only kill by touch -Zombies kill by throwing something soft to avoid physical contact -Zombies can only die by being shot in the face mask -Zombies can only die when shot in the chest (or contact paper on chest or back) -Humans can kill zombies with guns or melee weapons such as nerf covered swords, etc.
I have yet to see one (realistic) scenario work out so well that I would be comfortable with playing it.

We had a zombie game last op what ya, talking about. HAHA! Spooky, I like some of those ideas, maybe mix with these I thought of: -More zombies than humans -humans use only pistols or shotguns or spring rifles -humans can use any weapon(on semi only) and zombies use only a pistol (maybe even a springer) -I like the target on the zombie idea to replace a headshot

I think this would be best conducted as a pick up game, likea regular skirmish day theme.

It wouldn't work well in the open field at all. I'd say that it would be a good game for the village, or another urban type field, or section thereof.
It would need to be a short, timed game, 5 or 10 or 20 minutes.
You have to have more zombies than humans.
Probably a good idea to have only spring shotguns, pistols, that sort of thing. Maybe full auto weapons shooting under 350.
You need a good number of zombies, like, 5 humans vs. 20+ zombies, but More would be better. I personally think you should keep the game going by having the zombies only killable by shots to the headmask, or like, a specific section of the torso (tape on circle of paper, front and back).
I personally think that, unless you DO have 100 people there willing to wait their turn to play as the humans, the zombies would need to respawn every few minutes to keep the game going. It would need to be a timed game, where you just have to survive a certain time to win.
I'm not sure how zombies should 'kill.' Maybe foam funnoodles, so you can 'tag' someone without any real chance of harming them. That seems like the best idea to me right now. I've heard some stuff about zombies using a spray bottle to tag people, but I don't want someone to screw up anyone elses AEG. Besides, no Good zombie movie has the zombies spewing... zombie juice at people? It's all about the Braaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiins.
Also, humans who get tagged become zombies, of course.
I think zombies should have some sort of movement limitation, like only moving so fast. Now, that would be hard to enforce. I suppose you could hobble the zombies somewhat, haha, but that's probably not a good idea. I also like the idea of muddying up the 'zombie goggles' so they have reduced eyesight, or perhaps red or green filter paper over it.
Just my two cents worth. Probably more like $1.50 worth, at the end of this long column of thoughts.

Poo, I agree. For a 1st time we need to try it out with a smaller willing group to see what works in real life. Good points Ben. Esp about the AO. The Village or the "Woods" Dave says he has now. But I would say "no" to any full-auto use. I was also thinking, if a zombie shoots a human they are "frozen" cannot return fire. That human can either be tagged by another human to retreat, or tagged by a zombie to be come one. Objectives could be to: survive a given amount of time; "escape" from pt A to pt B; rescue other "hiding" survivors; elimination; find hidden anti-virus and escape...
Who knows, if we can get it to work and be enjoyable for both sides, maybe we could turn it into a Halloween mini-op!

I like the idea of having it during Halloween... we could turn the village into a "ghost town" to make it scary.
Some words of caution though. If you have zombies that can only touch a human to get him out, you would have to have guns shooting very low because even if you set an engagement distance, I doubt anyone would follow it when they are being chased by a bunch of zombies.
But if you have the game when its cold, and maybe late late afternoon you could encourage the zombies to dress with very thick clothing and full face masks that are painted real scary like. To avoid major damage when hit up close.

True about the engagement distances being shorter in "panic mode" ;D That's why I was thinking of the "shoot to freeze" ability for the zombies, where the victim cannot return fire. It would be up to his/her teammates to hold the zombies off till they can rescue him. Or then the zombies tag him to make him a zombie! I think I'll take some of this info everyone's sharing and sketch out some guidelines for a scenario. Then we can give it a try some skirmish day.

Another idea to make zombies harder to kill is to have them wear a small balloon tied to their chest (conveniently often the most protected target area on an airsofter). The humans have to pop the balloon to score a kill on a zombie (plus its lot safer than shooting at folks headgear).
What they did at the killhouse last year for Halloween is that the humans wore their killrags like a flag in touch football. If the zombies pull your flag, your dead. For a game like this you would probably want very low fps guns like pistols and springers and play in the town.

Just this saturday i went to operation skurge ii and it was completely zombie themed, my recomendations would be that zombies wear some sort of identifier such as a yellow bandanna since in real life zombies would be easily identifiable with flesh in there mouths and a noticed limp, zombies that are armed i think were a bad idea, our team was quickly surounded by armed zombies and it took all the fun out of the game also hide objectives throught the field and have a hostage you must rescue

tootall, Were those armed zombies allowed to run? What were some of the other guidelines/limitations that made it a little different(other than one team just being called "zombies")?

armed zombies were allowed to run and when hit the zombies had to stay still for 20 seconds. also they had zombies with spray bottles full of gatorad that if you were sprayed with you turned into zombies and there were no identifying tape or rags
