OK i can build the field, host operations, and do the best i can to promote it.
but we are having some growing pains (close shots, BS, and not taking hits, etc...).
so what i am suggesting is that we have a OC course.
have a on site OC course covering safety, the field, rules, ranges, weapons, the law, etc.
i can give people cards and patches showing that you are OC certified and can help out from time to time on the field.
what do you think? Dave

Interesting idea though I foresee a few problems. You'' see some of the "established" folks bitching that this is airsoft, a sport of honor, and we don't need refs. If you want refs go play paintball. Maybe find some Range Control folks from Hood to teach the course. Add some ironclad legitimacy to it. You'll also need to find a cadre of OC's that are willing to OC and not get into the game. Which means you'll need a large pool of OC's to draw upon so the same folks aren't always tasked to OC at every event.

Would this mean that only those who are oc certified may act in that capacity at ops?

No big deal for me, I'm Army trained and qualified as an OC thanks to Division West First Army. Got the papers to prove it, not like it means much.

OK I'm tired so bullet comments only..... first off OCs are NOT reffs.
OCs will not be used as reffs unless its a game requiring one (birthday party, under age gameetc...).
i would like at least 1 OC per team.
OCs would be trusted people that can drop down to the OC freq. to help in emergencies.
OC trained players can be used as credible witnesses.
i plan on opening up games to OCs so they can make money from time to time.
OCs can open the field if something happens to me.
OC trained players can help self police the play making reffs not needed.
the reason I'm asking for help is due to the hate mail that i have received about the OP. the past 4-5 MAJOR problems that i have had at the field were from "experienced" players. so having some official card caring OC certified people can help manage that. i hope.
I'm just trying to keep the hate mail down, thats all. the shame is that its the experienced players that are causing the big problems.
and its no one here currently on this forum, and please don't ask for names.
Dave

I really like this idea. It's definitely going to keep the field in check if people actually went through the course.
I also like the idea of patches or some form of recognition. I'm in total support, count me in.

Seems to be alot of "drama" stirring up in areas of Texas concerning the airsoft community. We are all not perfect, ie; guaranteed most if not all have shot our airsoft guns somewhere in the "public" ie; backyard. It's still considered in public view, as well played in a "non-legit" field. I'm not innocent in this aspect of things, i've played on family owned property. But besides that, just hope everyone not be "SMART" and post stupid things online or mention it. Don't ask don't tell. But also with that in mind if you have to make sure no one is watching or double think your action. Its probably stupid, so don't do it. We are all intelligent enough to know right or wrong. I love lamp.

I hate to see a community that can be as large as Texas have some of the more "senior" players get butthurt over someone with a good idea. I've only been here a few months, but I've already seen some people (name omitted, but Dave knows who) show their ass. As far as playing in public goes, it's frowned upon but I think if we police our own it won't be that bad.
As far as refs go, I think they're required. It's easier to listen to someone who has no stake in the game than someone pointing fingers over people not calling hits who are in the game. Rant done.

its the same in all hobbies (paint ball, living history, stamp collecting, etc...) some people know how to fix everything but never want to help. i don't like using the word reff as much as OC. my job is to observe and control the danger areas, not the players. if some one is not taking his hit i will let the shooter keep shooting him till he gets the hint (as long as its safe). i call people out in safety situations, and normally its both shooters that get called out at the same time. many people want to say that this hobby is a serious sport. so tell me this what sport has no officials on the field? just my .02
